In the footsteps of Dante Alighieri – April 8-11
The first trip in Dante's footsteps, organized by I Parchi Letterari, took place April 8-11 2016. Participants from the Dante Committes of Olten, Switzerland, Örebro Sweden, Bergamo and Matera, both Italy, got to experience the landscape and culture of Emilia-Romagna where Dante lived in the later part of his life.
The general impression is a very well organized trip with extremely knowledgeable and interesting guides and well chosen places to visit. As we were a small group of about 10 we hade ample opportunities to ask questions and also to get to know each other. The days were very intense and fully packed with things to see, wine and local specialties to taste and lots of information on the history of the area and the life of Dante. As not all the participants understood Italian, English was the general language used. In some cases the local guides spoke Italian and an English translation was given.
The Dante committees outside of Italy have more focus on ”all things Italian” than specifically on Dante Alighieri himself. A trip like this makes Dante and his works come alive and gives inspiration for the 700 years anniversary of the death of the poet in 2021. The Committee of Örebro, Sweden, will contact other Swedish committees to hopefully be able to set up a lecture tour in Sweden in the coming year with lecturers from Italy, promoting the work of I Parchi Letterari and especially le terre di Dante.
